Country singer Zach Bryan deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account after facing backlash over a controversial post involving Taylor Swift, Kanye West, and the NFL.
On Wednesday, Bryan shared a tweet that stirred up fans by comparing Swift to West and taking a dig at the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the tweet, Bryan wrote, “eagles > chiefs, Kanye > Taylor. Who’s with me?” The post referenced the NFL rivalry between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the long-standing feud between Swift and West.
The tweet took on extra significance as Swift’s boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason Kelce, who recently retired from the Eagles, are both major NFL figures.
Swift’s loyal fanbase, known as “Swifties,” quickly responded, prompting Bryan to walk back his comments.
Before deactivating his account, Bryan explained that his post was influenced by alcoholl.
“Guys I love Taylor. [I] was listening to TTPD last night and ‘Thank You Aimee’ came on and I drunkenly tweeted that about Kanye,” Bryan said
“If anyone took it serious, please know I love both artists a lot and think we’re in a really beautiful time of music.”
Despite his attempt to clarify, the damage was done, and screenshots of his tweet spread across social media.
Pop culture account @PopCrave shared the post, which generated over 1.1 million views and sparked heated debate among fans.
Swifties were quick to criticize Bryan, with one user saying, “He knew not to mess with the Swifties .”
Others, however, supported his initial statement, with fans commenting, “Facts Kanye > Taylor.”
The situation also reignited discussions about the infamous 2009 incident at the MTV Video Music Awards when Kanye West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech, a moment that has defined their public feud ever since.
While Bryan has deactivated his X account, the controversy continues to swirl online, with passionate responses from both Swift’s fanbase and those who backed Bryan’s original tweet.
