Kanye West Sells Gutted Malibu Mansion at $36 Million Loss
Kanye West’s seaside Malibu, CA, mansion that he bought in 2021 for $57.25 million, later gutted, and then sold for $21 million over the summer grabbed thousands of viewers’ attention this week.
All of the interior finishes were removed from the Tadao Ando-designed property, including doors and windows, in West’s quest to turn the home into a brutalist bomb shelter. Instead, it became a derelict property when he abandoned his plans.
The 4,021-square-foot, eye-popping structure, made entirely of concrete, originally hit the market in January for $53 million before the price dropped to $39 million in April. It eventually attracted a buyer in August, resulting in a multimillion-dollar loss for the seller.
The pricey pad in dire need of a revitalization is the week’s most popular home on Realtor.com®.
Also grabbing buyers’ attention this week were former Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan’s Illinois megamansion, a fractional ownership opportunity in the Arizona desert, and a Cape Cod-style estate in Michigan custom built by a player for the Detroit Red Wings.
