Barkley hopped on a recent episode of the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast and explained why his dad wouldn’t necessarily support him at every Philadelphia Eagles game.
The former New York Giants running back signed a three-year, $37.75 million deal with Philly earlier this offseason, defecting to a fierce NFC East rival. For Barkley’s dad, though, it’s the other New York franchise that holds a near and dear place in his heart.
In a hypothetical scenario in which both the Eagles and the New York Jets reach the Super Bowl, Barkley admitted that his dad would still root for Gang Green, not the Kelly green.

“He’s a Jets fan because he’s from New York, but the year he was born was ‘69,” Barkley told Jason and Travis Kelce. “He doesn’t even wear my jersey. I’m serious. I got him a Joe Namath Jets jersey, he wears that… I would hope he would switch up, but if I had to take a guess, I think he would probably cheer for the Jets to win the Super Bowl.”
Barkley added, “Which is sad to say out loud.”
As the Eagles star notes, Barkley’s dad was born in 1969, one year after the Jets defeated the Baltimore Colts to win their sole Lombardi Trophy before the AFL-NFL merger.
While glory days may still be ahead for the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets in the upcoming 2024-25 season, Barkley and the Eagles have their own agenda after a disappointing wild-card playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in January.
Should Barkley win a ring in the coming years, he will most likely do so as an Eagle—much to his father’s dismay.
